At Woodlands school we value the importance of ensuring that families start their journey here as smoothly as possible. We try our best to answer all questions, queries and worries you might have and we are here to help with applications for things such as transport too. The Harrow Special Needs Assessment and Review Service (SENARS) will advise families to make an appointment to visit our school where you will receive a tour of the school by a member of our senior leadership team. We will also meet your child, usually in their current educational placement as part of our assessment for a school place.
After you receive your letter to confirm your child’s place here at Woodlands School you will be invited to an information sharing morning at school. This takes place in the summer term led by the Early Years Leader and is an opportunity to learn more about the school, the classroom environment, school curriculum and extra-curricular activities that we have to offer. Speech and language, physio and occupational therapists are also present at the information morning so you are aware of the therapy provision that is offered here at Woodlands school. You will be given an information pack with everything you need to know from purchasing uniform to applying for transport. We are also happy to help you with any of this and can provide interpreters as needed.
Before your child starts school in Early Years a home visit will take place where your child’s class teacher and a teaching assistant from the class will visit you at your home. This is a fantastic opportunity to talk to the staff team and to share information about your child. Your child will be allocated a start date within the first weeks of the autumn term starting in September. We value parents input during this time and appreciate that starting school is a huge mile stone in our pupil’s lives. This is why we ask that for the first two days, parents come into the classroom with their child to help with the settling in period. For the first four days, normally Monday-Thursday, your child will come into Woodlands from 8.50-11.45 and they will be bought in and collected by their parents. On the Friday of the first week, the children will be bought in by their parents for the morning, stay for lunch and then go home on transport if they require this. This will be the child’s first time on transport if you will be receiving this service. After this transition is completed the pupils will be full time pupils at Woodlands school from 8.50-3.45 Monday-Friday.
N.B Woodlands school transport is a service provided by Harrow Council. They will contact you directly to inform you of collection and drop off times.
